ABOUT SUSAN M. ROCHELLE, A.I.A.

The architecture and design studio of Susan M. Rochelle, A.I.A. has been in operation since 1993.  Prior to establishing her practice, she served as designer and project manager for W. Winthrop Jones, A.I.A. until his retirement in 1985 and for Walter Pfeiffer, Sr., until his death in 1993.

She earned her B.A. in Interior Design from Centenary College and her Master of Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1989.

Susan has served on the Historic Preservation Commissions of Union Township and Holland Township and is a member of the American Institute of Architects. She is licensed by the State of New Jersey (License Number 12601) and she holds Certificate Number 49696 from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Among the many projects she has designed are Alterations and Additions to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, in Pittstown, N.J., which is listed on the National Historic Register. Additionally, she designed the Alterations and Additions to the Surgeon’s Quarters at Fort Hancock. Because this landmark building is owned by the Federal Government, plans for the construction had to adhere to the Interior Department’s “Standards for Rehabilitation”—a strict set of guidelines aimed at making old buildings safe for occupants and visitors while preserving their historic fabric. A strong believer in Historic Preservation, Susan comments: “The guidelines are time consuming.  They are costly.  And they are well worth the effort.”

Susan brings a vision of traditionally inspired timeless design to her homes and other buildings and additions. Her plans for additions and renovations preserve and restore the historical character of existing structures and their surroundings, while equipping them with today's modern essential conveniences. Her new-construction plans complement the surrounding community's historical context, resulting in buildings that look like they had been constructed years ago. She stresses strong working relationships and open communication with clients to make sure their needs are fulfilled with a rewarding and creative building experience.
